Montañés

He is a PRE × Lusitano cross, combining two of the great Iberian traditions in one horse. Because of his breeding, Montañes is registered in the ANCADES studbook, and his offspring can therefore be registered with a CDE passport.

What immediately makes Montañes stand out is his unusual colour. He carries the Dun gene heterozygously together with one copy of the Cream gene, giving him a particularly distinctive diluted coat with primitive markings. These include the characteristic dorsal stripe along the back and zebra-like barring on the legs, traits strongly associated with the Dun gene.

But for us, Montañes has always been much more than an unusual colour.

We raised him ourselves and took great care with his education from the beginning. His backing was approached slowly and naturally, first introducing him to ridden work without a saddle and only in a halter. That foundation helped create the confident horse he is today.

Under saddle, Montañes is exceptionally brave and reliable. He is the kind of horse that approaches new situations with confidence rather than hesitation, yet at home he remains incredibly playful. He loves interaction, tricks and learning new things, and he quickly turns new exercises into a game.

That same curiosity and easy relationship with people is something we especially appreciate in him as a breeding stallion.

Montañes has already produced several beautiful foals for us, and through his offspring we have been able to see the qualities we value most in him: presence, character, expression and individuality.

From a breeding perspective, his genetics also make him particularly interesting for breeders who appreciate diluted colours. As a stallion carrying one Dun allele and one Cream allele, he can contribute colour possibilities that are far less common within the traditional Iberian population, depending of course on the genetics of the mare.

For us, however, colour is never enough on its own.

What makes Montañes valuable in our breeding program is the combination of his unusual genetics, strong personality, bravery, rideability and the character he brings to his offspring.

He is a stallion we have known almost his entire life — and one whose story continues through every new generation he produces.
